.........is no longer a featherweight! It is now a "lightweight". The original weight was just 9 1/4 pounds but I have increased it to 9 3/4 pounds! The rifle has a rather light butstock and the ballance point was always too far forward for my liking so it was really begging for some added weight towards the rear. Getting the extra weight at the right location was the hard bit as I did not want to destroy the wonderful feel of of a double with correct weight distribution. Anyway it is now done and it comes to the shoulder real nice. Of course the alternative was to have a new butstock made in heavy/dense walnut but that would have been a much slower and more expensive way to go. Also my rifles get used a lot and tend to get marked a bit so I figure it is better to get the most out of the old stock first. No need to worry about this one Mick as it has the barrels the "right" way so I don't need any drugs to shoot it! |
