From what history I have read, double rifles were initially designed when ammunition and single shot locks were unreliable, giving you a chance at a 2nd shot. Most other benefits of the design were discovered later. The english gentry made an easier transition to doubles as they were familiar and confident with shotguns. I always carefully watch commercial videos of double rifle users shooting the big stuff. An aweful lot look very clean and I wonder how long the rifle has been out of the gun bag. |
