Re: 3006 or 45/70

I shot the 300 grain bullet loads with 62 grains of H322 (est. 2,200 fps) this morning and got the barrels to uncross at 25 yards using the jackscrew. Here's a hint, adjust the jackscrew a couple of clicks at a time as the barrels will move as you continue to shoot.

I moved one whole revolution and the barrels uncrossed almost perfectly but 6 shots later they were 6" apart. So I slowly turned the jack screw back a couple of clicks at a time every fourth shot and wound up with the left barrel hitting 2" left of the right barrel. I think that the jackscrew bows the barrels and they have to settle down in position afterwards so I'm going to leave it like that until the next range session.

From the 350 grain bullets I shot last week to the 300 grain bullets I shot today, the point of impact changed up over a foot. I adjusted the front sight up three full revolutions and I was still hitting 8" high with the (fixed) left barrel and just about POA with the right barrel.

I think that I have to slow the load down a great deal and maybe even switch back to a heavier bullet to get the left (fixed) barrel elevation correct. I'm going to have to find some small shims to fit under the collar of the right (floating) barrel to see if I can raise the POI of that barrel.
