Gentlepeople: I had my Merkel .500 NE out this weekend and popped a few rounds off. It's post peak folliage here in Virginia and much of the bushes/trees/grasses are in the amber color. When I was shooting this monster I couldn't help but realize that the front sight was a gold color. This being the first time I ever shot this during this time of the year, it took me longer than I though to get a sight profile becuase the front sight was blending in with the background. As I was driving back home, I realized that from everything I've seen in African pictures (Haven't actually hunted there YET, but will soon!) the grasses/trees/etc also have that golden hue to it. I'm wondering if I'm in Africa with this weapon I'll have the same issues with the front sight blending in with the background. Has anyone else experienced this? Is so, is it a problem for you? Have you improvised the front sight in any way? |
