Amazing coincidence, just watched 'Out of Africa' on cable this afternoon! It was quite difficult to get a good look at the double carried by Robbie Redford in the film: he kept turning away at the critical moment, or it was in shadow. After the charging lion sequence, it was identifiable as a sidelock, but appeared to be the conventional pattern rather than the characteristic dipped-edge Lancaster trademark. Karen appeared to be carrying a Mauser with a flattened bolt-knob, and the 'boy' had a cut-down P-14. These days, the film would be referred to as a 'chick-flick', but there's plenty of hunting in it for the boys. I loved the frequent insinuation that, for Karen, happiness was a full gun-rack! (it meant the boys were in town!) |
