Folks , I have two rifles in the 256 express ( 6.5 x 53R ) . One is like the prior mentioned Gibbs 1892 Steyr take-down , and the other an 1897 Westley Richards New Model . The loading I use is the 160 gr Hornady round nose pushed by 39 grains of VV N-560 . Very accurate in both rifles and has a predicted chamber pressure with QuickLoad of 38,246 psi , velocity of 2400 feet per second and an estimated muzzle energy of 2073 foot pounds . I also heard that Hornady was no longer making this bullet , too bad , a great cross sectional density and penetration . I have had a number of white tail deer down with this round even at up to 130 yards , single rounds . Thanks , Jim |
