Re: Double of the Day - a bit of controversy

"the Blaser break-open guns and rifles will never amount to a wart on the buttstock of mid-19th century pinfire rifles."

"The rifle is still HIDEOUS! No amount of understanding of the hows and whys of the design are going to change that. I understand the design, I just don't like it."

Remarkable; I fully agree with you both, sort of, but I still find Jaeger's design most interesting, from a mechanical perspective. No, I don't own any Blaser at all.
___________

"Have you ever seen a rifle with that action in "the flesh" ? Talk about complicated !!"

I saw three of them, over past 20 years, two being sold by a Texas gun dealer. This design clearly shows the long standing passion that German gun designers have had through history, for working to achieve the most strength possible, between barrels and breech. They, of course, developed the outstanding Mauser action, and tried to develop bolting systems equal to that, for break open rifles, as this remarkable system shows in these pictures. Interesting, no?? It isn't terribly complicated, once you study it. George Hoenig's design is similar, but the shooter twists the barrels/action to get locking lugs to lock up as this one does, by the turning of the locking lugs on the standing breech. If you are not familiar with the remarkable gun maker, George Hoenig of Boise, Idaho, do some research--you won't regret it.
