I'm no expert on Rigbys but I would say the side lever variation is quite rare. For me I'm not sure it adds to the appeal, but I would love to have one whether side lever or top lever. Does anybody know an approximate number of rising bite rifles that were made? I think they are quite appealing, but it's hard for me to accept that this is a stronger 3rd fastener than a Webley screw grip. I would place my bet on the screw grip to win a contest of strength between the two. In fact, I would wager that the Webley screw grip is the strongest third fastener of all. While making comparisons I would be willing to bet my Purdey .303 with snap action Jones underlever and a wedge type third fastener makes a stronger lockup than this Rigby. I have heard Kirk Merrington say that particular Purdey action beats all for strength. Nevertheless, the Rigby is a nice rifle. Just not $50k nice for me, even if I had $50k of walking around money.
