What has Pommy VAT got to do with bringing a gun to Australia from where the auction is held ?

"customs agent handling fees" aren't that much. it would be the same as any other air freight shipment and if sent via the post, even cheaper.

I'd say 10k, then 2k (assuming your 20% is correct),
you could land it here in Aust for under 15k if not under 13.5 - 14k.
