Using GDP per capita ( a good measure of how "affordable") and staying in pounds sterling 79 pounds sterling in 1910 is approx now 53,700 GBP, using purchasing power it is about 39,000 GBP. Canīt comment on dollars, there used to be about 5 to the pound back then !! for calculations see http://www.measuringworth.com
