A problem with that might be the overall weight however. If the DR is already heavy, a case in a case, may well double the case weight.

Having a Pelican case with simpler foam cut outs might be better for travel anyway ie re weight.

If you want a gun slip, for vehicle use as well, that's another extra weight.

The traditional case is so appropriate for a vintage rifle however, so your answer in your post is one potential good compromise.
