What I was thinking was that if I found the 450-grainer kicked too hard, I might be able to load the 410gr or a 400gr bullet to the same velocity and still have something equal to the .450/.400 - with luck enough for buff. Of course neither is 3/4 the weight of the 450gr, so regulation problems would be expected.

Doesn't matter! There were no .500/.416 rifles around anyway, and this thread suggests I should be glad.
