Golly! Thank you all for taking up the thread. It's not so much the ammo or the cost of, but the bullets that seem to be a worry. I am hoping to learn more about the RWS bullets as I go along. They are 285grain T Mantel's. They certainly tipped over the scrub bulls, one was a forehead shot, but as I'm hoping to hunt Buffalo in Africa you can see that I don't want any doubt in my rifle on the day. The accuracy of these cartridges in my rifle engenders confidence but... the bullets? Eland too is on the list. I have purchased some Hornady Dangerous Game Series loaded with a 286gr SP-RP but as yet have not had a chance to fire them. I have not purchased any Norma 9.3 which is available but considering the quality of their ammo it could well pay dividends. Has anyone used Norma on large game in this calibre? Incidentally I'll be 50 in 2013 so I figure a trip to Africa is a good way to celebrate! I did hunt in South Africa in 1998 and have hoped to live out the quote that 'once you have been to Africa you will always return' Thanks for all the replies and information. I'll check back with interest. Regards, Sepia. |
