Thanks to all for these helpful thoughts. I do think it makes sense to pick up several of these guns, Merkel, Chapuis, Krieghoff and perhaps a vintage gun at or about the same time. I've held them all and thought I liked them each, but haven't had the chance to do it closely enough in time and with the hot-to-trot buying intent in mind. To be clear, I would not consider the Blaser S2 double. It's just to darn ugly at both ends. My instinct here will probably lead me to having two doubles at some point before I'm dead--a scoped 9.3 x 72 for fun and amusement--boars, hogs, deer and an open sight 470 or 500 for the one or two times in my life that I might again be facing something that can kill me. Need, of course, has no role in this equation. I have sevel 416 and 375 bolt guns already. (Maybe cabelas would take one in trade on a sabati). I just want a big heavy, pretty stick that throws massive quantities of lead. |
