I think this is an interesting rifle, but I really wish people would leave them alone and NOT get them reproved for full power nitro loads. While that MAY (???) increase market value, as pointed out above the fact the gun passed proof by no mean indicates it will stay on face or stand up to loads far beyond what it was designed for.

As to the price, H&H in NY has a refinished hammerless sidelock 577 BPE come Nitro for $72k asking. I was in town a few weeks ago and almost made an appointment to see it, but I couldn't get over the newly added gold animal inlay by a famous engraver. No matter how well done or by whom, that seriously, seriously detracts from the value in my eyes. These are just my opinions, I think the subject rifle is very cool, even more so if it had be left alone.
