Re: Hunting with hammer-guns in 2010, a no-go?

I thought a DR which cocks when you brak it as most hamerless doubles do, are quicker and easier to use than a hammer-double? Slow second shot?
The ahmmergun is probably better concerning safety to others...
I suppose it pretty much comes down to prectice, or? I'd like to hear from the ones wha has actually done a fair bit of hunting with these guns.

I might try to swap a Merkel lux .470 to a the earlier mentioned Jeffrey .400" hammergun with toplever.

Would that be a sound descision?

The reason for doing this is that I find my .470 stying a lot in the gun cabinet, not beeing used (having a doublerifledrilling in 2x9,3x74R). I bought the Merkel to be a working gun, something it surely isn't.

I'd also like something classic and preferably british.
It will be used once or twice for an elephant or two, then probably some mooosehunting when the weather is good back home.

Would it be stupid to trade in a Merkel that works perfectly well to a hammergun like the Jeffrey?

How would you compare the value of the two guns?
