Re: Arrietta Double Rifles

Arrieta and Grulla double rifles both use barrels made in Belgium where they are also regulated. Whilst both make superb shotguns, Grulla especially, I still think you are better off looking in the second hand market rather than buying a new Spanish double. There is one maker I would consider if you can ever find one, he is Mateo Mendicute, who, I am reliably informed is the only Spaniard to have built double rifles from the ground up on his own and is regarded by the Spaniards as a true artisan. he has been dead for years but worked independantly with his son, I think, between 1928ish and 1950ish when he joined AYA. I have seen an old catalogue of Mendicutes' circa 1935 advertising his double rifle, in this case a .303 but in 8 years of looking have never heard of one, let alone seen one, best, Mike
