Well the deed is done and I am defeated. The auction was Friday night, it was local and I thought I may have a shot. Everything I had my eye on went well above high estimate and even blue book value. I had checked previous gun specialist auctions (James Julia) etc. and the prices were well north of those prices. I thought there was a recession going on. The W C Scott 700 20 ga. in 99% condition hammered at 3500 + 18% The W C Scott 28 ga.in 98% hammered at 4250 + 18% The Westly Richards 28 ga. 70% condition hammered at 6800 + 18% The Lyon & Lyon 450EX 85% as restored hammered at 12,000 + 18% I was out at 9500. It was a vain hope, but nothing ventured noting gained or lost, such is life. Back to waiting watching and hoping for another local auction with a sleeper. The auction house had listed the Lyon as a" 7.50 Cordite" and estimated 1500 - 2500. I was hoping that no one knowledgable or interested would show. Unfortunately there were allot of high end American guns ( Parker Bros. SxS ) This drew enough people, that I ran into someone who knew and wanted the Lyon. Thanks for all the advice and input. If only you could have sent me an extra 6000 to go with it. Next time. |
