After a long wait until the 650 gr. Woodleigh BPE projectiles arrived from midway; I shot my .577 2.75" with them, bullets. For those who don't know, this is a 1889(ish) rig with damascus tubes. Scary stuff indeed. Using my superior powers of deduction, I mathematically concluded that 65gr of IMR 4198 would be a safe starting point. Naturally, I was correct. It shot apart (7"), but held together. I'll add one grain until it's 4" or so. Remember - damascus. I'm not going to push this ole girl. God bless the .577! P.S. Recoil from this 8.5 pound rifle is... stout. |
