Short fore-ends are not uncommon on large calibre Brit doubles, as the barrels are already quite hand-filling and extra wood is simply an encumberance. After all, the fore-end's only job is to prevent the barrel-group falling off when the gun is opened! ...and to house the ejectors if fitted. If anything, the barrels are a bit long for a Jeffery boxlock, many were 24 inches. |
