I can see rechambering and/or reboring a rifle because the chambers and/or bores had issues or there was no source of finished or basic formable brass from which to start, but I have trouble getting into the shoes of the fellow who took acceptable chambers and reamed them out to accomodate a more common case when that common case could have served to form the original case. And then left the bores alone so he had a one off, wildcat rifle which needs reworked brass anyway. Easier to just rework the 405 brass to begin with, eh? Or, second choice, rechamber and rebore the rifle to shoot the 405win.

But hey, it was his rifle to do with as he pleased.
