Re: Question .577 NE

Quote:

There were apparently several 'light nitro' loads for the .577 x 2 3/4: the 65gr Cordite load equalling the original BP cartridge, a 75gr Cordite load, and the 90gr Cordite or 'full nitro' load.

There was also a 750gr projectile load for the 2 3/4 case.

Here's my take on the .577 x 2 3/4 cartridge, for those who haven't seen it before: .577 Light Nitro

John: I wouldn't let a decent 2 3/4 chambered .577 double get away if I were you. They are simply marvellous things.

I build strictly .577 2 3/4 full nitro load guns. Whats this you ask? Basically its two loads that Kynoch offers for sale and gives the 2 3/4" real punch. One is 650 grain bullet at 1950FPS for about 5500FPE. The second is a 750 grain bullet at 1800FPS for about 5600FPE. Recoil is stout, but very manageable and I can shoot 20 rounds easily (one of the reason I like this cartridge). There is not an animal on the planet that would not be stopped with either of these loads. It creates a large wound channel, and a big thump to the game.

My hand loads to match the Kynoch stuff is as follows:

750SN Woodleigh, 118 Grains H4350, 1800FPS, ~5600FPE, 1 foam wad, F 215 primer.

650SN Woodleigh, 125 Grains IMR4831, 1950FPS, ~5500FPE, 1 foam wad, F 215 primer.

I don't think either of these exceeds 10 tons pressure, and the cases just fall out.
