I owned a Merkel DR and a Chapuis DR (at the same time). In my honest opinion the Merkel is a finer rifle. The Chapuis is goofy. From the A&D action to the splinter forend; the Merkel is closer to an English rifle than any continental firearm I've seen. I only sold my Merkel to get a real English DR.
