I am new to the forum but have been following it for a couple of weeks. Also been readin a lot on british double rifles. Are they expensive or what ![]() I did notice that in the early 1900s some of the most popular and renonwed doubles were made by H&H ,Rigby,Purdey and westley richards.Unfortunaltey one of the pioneers Rigby had to be sold off. Coming to my question on comparing the prices of similar rifles I see that the Rigby is no where even close to as expensive as it previous(I could be wrong)peers. Is it because of cheaper labour in the united states, which could also imply cheaper=not the best labour or do you think the britsh makers such as H&H ect are grossly overpriceing they equipment and the diffrence we are paying is not for the quality of the product alone but more for the tradition that a completely british made rifle represents. The starting price on the website fora Rigby boxlock is at $36500 and the same from Westley Richards would start from -$49,547 this is for the .500 ne .I woulnt even want to venture near the hollands or the purdeys lol. I ve read a lot and noticed that the real hunters(not the princes, barons and the maharajas)used a rigby that a purdey for example that says a lot for its predigree .So going by the fact that the new Rigby is quite inexpensive when compared to the others ,is it because quality wise they no longer compete with the rest or some other reason besides what I have mention. In simple words would you say the new Rigbys are as good as any of the current british double? Would love to see pictures of any of the new Rigby Doubles ![]() AJ |
