As usual I cannot be satisfied until I've tried it all, so I loaded six rounds of the 440 grain cast gas check bullets, six rounds of the 550 grain cast gas check bullets and six rounds of the 440 grain Woodleigh bullets. ALL, repeat ALL performed perfectly, decent grouping and well centered... with, believe it or not the best groups from the 550 grain bullets. I was a bit surprised as the gun has a 30" twist and I thought it might be a bit slow for this heavy bullet. As for the gun already being "proofed", yes it was and I didn't even come close to that. Filling the case to where it compressed the Shockley American Gold Powder about 3/16" it shot great, kicked as expected and it is ready for lion in Tanzania. I'll worry about a smokeless load in the future, for now this old gal is up and running once again. 117 years and still running strong. |
