I am of a mind that one should NEVER place a break open gun in a case assembled. That said, I don't much like the Tuff Pack type case. It doesn't lend itself to carrying the gun broken down. It doesn't take much lateral pressure to damage stocks on DRs or Dbl shotguns, and one good bump can ruin a stock and a hunt.

I like my coffin sized SKB 4 gun case.

It is a bit of a handful, but I carried numerous spears and such back in all that extra room...with my guns taken down...!
