While I am not a fan of most shops, some simply wouldn't know a Gibbs square bridge from a any other run of the mill Remchesterby. Works both ways too. Two years ago, I walked into a shop to buy some extra ammo in 250 Savage and they had a Lee Metford Mk I sitting there which, because it had all the blue and all original with nice wood, was sitting with the 'other' WWII surplus military Lees but they had it marked at the upper end of the group, $375. I asked to see it, checked the bore (mint) and when I put it down to reach for my checkbook, say a MkV two loops down. Asking to see that, and with mint bore/wood/sights intact, I asked for a 'two for' at the 'normal' price of $325. The guy offered to throw in two boxes of 250 Savage. So, don't knock dumb local shops. It can work to your advantage. Dave |
