remington/sparton double 45-70

Does anybody know the latest on the availability of the Remington/Sparton double rifle. Hope it's worth the wait if it ever does becomes available.

Dunno about the Remington version, but that SxS double is still described as being in the "preproduction stage" on the Baikal web-site.

Re: remington/sparton double 45-70

Remington had one on display at the show this year; it is probably the same one that they had on display last year. In all fairness, the individual that I talked to about the double was probably not in a department that knows about what is actually out on the market and what is not. When asked when the double would be available, he stated that it should already be available. (I agree, but we all know it is NOT available) That should have been my cue to give up the quest for useful information; I did not get any useful information despite my continued expenditure of time.

BSAJoe posted some very detrailed pictures over here.

I wish we would see them in showrooms soon, though...

Re: remington/sparton double 45-70

I've read somewhere that the deal with Remington has fallen through and the Spartan doubles will be distributed by someone else. For the life of me I cannot remember where I saw it. If I find it I will be sure to post it here. Given the elapsed time and the run around from Remington I doubt they will ever appear in the US via Remington.

On a good note, appearently, Hornady Ammunition is working on a 450/400 factory loading. Rumor also has it that it is being developed for the Ruger #1. I'm pretty sure I saw that on AR. If this is true, the smart manufacturer would develop an affordable double for the Hornady load. CZ already has suitable actions so it would be possible and easiest for them. I guess we will have to wait and see.

From Remington as of Jan 28, 2006:

"The double rifle (SPR 22) and the single shot (SPR 18) rifle have not been released for sale at this time. Due to quality issues with mass production we are unable to release at this time these firearms with the Remington name. We hope to be able to release these guns mid to the end of 2006."

"Quality Control", my ass! Also, Remington will soon market the former Charles Daley Zastava made mausers under their name. I guess building their own mausers was beyond their capacity...

It appears that there will be no more barreled actions or ZDF pistols available, accordingly.

Re: remington/sparton double 45-70

Examined the sample 45-70 at the SHOT Show, overall quite impressive, good balance, decent finish, walnut not "hardwood". Rear sight had tiny U should be opened up or replaced. A bit light at 7.5 lbs., will kick. Rem rep said scope rings to fit rib will come with it, a 1-4x scope will add some weight. Target price $699 retail $499 wholesale. Hope they make an appearance after all the hype.

Re: remington/spartan double 45-70

Goble's Gun and Tackle in Ontario is a Canadian distributor for Baikal Canada and they carry the SxS Artemida. The fellow I've exchanged a few emails there with says he has a 30-06 coming in, but the 45-70's are still a ways off: late summer or longer (you can read that as who knows, if ever.)

http://www.goblesgunandtackle.com/BaikalGuns.html

Baikal Canada told me the 30-06's were, in fact, available, so perhaps it's true... They have a long list of distributors on their site.

I told the fellow I would take the 30-06: if it ever shows up I'll put in a full report. The price listed is a lot higher than hoped $1100.00 CND (around 935 US) but I'm tired of waiting.

According to the gunshop the Baikal 30-06 SxS will arrive this week where it will then head out west to my door.
