Small bore double rifle

I built this little rifle out of Remington no6 receivers, its chambered in 22 short, weights 6.5 pounds, Over all length is 32.75" and the Lop is 13"

I still need to blue the barrels and fit the butt plate

In the last pic the target that shows was shot at 10m the blue was the right barrel and the black is the left

Re: Small bore double rifle

Truly amazing!

Always wanted to build a .22 Rimfire SxS double, but never thought of doing that!

Well done!

ps You must be a young fella to be able to focus that rear sight so close to your eye!

Interesting creation. The twin trigger setup could be change, if ever redone. Not that I'm capable of doing what you have done.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Small bore double rifle

All those small critters you have over there will be shaking in their boots!
Certainly a one of being the smallest double rifle (I would assume), but it looks like a hell of a lot of fun to be had for you coming up soon!
Interesting concept!!!!!

It certainly is an interesting project.
Why the sight placement?

Re: Small bore double rifle

Thanks guys,

the triggers arnt to bad to use, there is no recoil so its easy to manage,(I can see a higher recoiling round being a problem for sure with double firing)and they are pretty close together, the width of the receivers is just under 1". The way i put my finger in, my first bend pulls the right trigger and the tip fires the left barrel, the natural movement of my finger pulls the right barrel first

the rear sight it a bit far back, it is a little blurry so I'm sure as i get older it will get worse but i just use it similar to a peep sight, i just focus on the front sight and my brain lines up the rear.

the reason its so far back is for sight radius the barrels are only 18" long.

i have thought about installing a tang aperture sight for it or making a new sight mount and moving the rear sight 3" forwards.

i milled the wood blank myself from a huge walnut tree that blew over a few years ago

here is a video of it cocking and dry firing (click the video should go to it)

actually I've already started collecting the parts for it. the plan is to build a .577 Snider double rifle.

I have a Merkel 12g SxS and I recently bought 3 poor condition barrels sets for it to build mono blocks out of.

then I plan to build a few different calibers all fitted to the same receiver all using the same fore stock.

I also have 2x 36" 577 Snider barrels on the way for it. I doubt very much ill leave them 36" but I do plan or trying them out.

A 48" or better yet, slightly faster twist would be even better, like 38" to 40".
Bobby Hoyte might be a good thought on barrels, or maybe Ed Rayle.

Re: Small bore double rifle

Thanks guys

the barrels got blued a real quick and dirty method, it doesnt look the best but it will function (vinegar, salt, hydrogen peroxide and boiling water)

I made a new rear sight base to move the rear sight 2.5" ahead, raised it 0.040", so that should help with it shooting low (as seen in the target pic), it looks better and is no longer blurry too.
