28in. nitro reproved barrels with raised matt rib, carved in gothic script 'JOHN RIGBY & CO. 72 ST. JAMES'S ST. LONDON', and bold scroll engraving at the breech end, open sights, ramped blade fore-sight with flip-up moonsight, tubes engraved '"SPECIAL" 450 BORE BIG GAME RIFLE. FOR SPECIAL CORDITE CARTRIDGES AND BULLET 480GRS', treble-grip action with Rigby & Bissell patent rising third bite, patent no. 1141 of 1879, use number 759, carved leaf fences, slender toplever, manual safety with button release and gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, removable striker discs, dipped-edge lockplates, chequered front trigger, fully engraved with bold foliate scroll engraving on a partially matted background, 14 3/4in. figured pistolgrip stock (possible replacement) with sling eyes, horn pistolgrip-cap and including 7/8in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with Rigby patent screw-grip fore-end fastener and Rigby patent ejector / non-ejector selector nut, small crack to wood, weight 11lb., in its brass-cornered oak and (later) buffalo hide case, with sighting targets

Depending on condition that price estimate is way too low.

I have bid on rifles with Holts that went up to 50% above their price guide.

Guess we will know tomorrow.

Externally looks ok. Buttstock does look new cf to forend wood.

No word on bore condition and why Nitro reproved..

A friend of mine had a look at that very rifle and he told me to steer clear. Badly corroded in many areas, new stock of sub-standard workmanship and bores that were so-so. Lots of cosmetic touch-ups went on in this instance. Pity. A nice rifle in a fantastic calibre.
