Books on British firearms accessories?

This is sort of a shot in the dark, but are there any decent books/guides to collecting British firearms accessories? Especially from the 19th Century? Essentially I'm interesting in learning more about all the accouterments that used to come in the case with these fine rifles.

I haven't found one but use pictures of cased guns
to see what came with them.

This sounds like a Mike Rowe question!

Check out "British Handloading Tools" by David Baker (2003) to cover that particular aspect.

Neuman’s Oak Point Books in Lewistown, Illinois, have a copy for sale right now.

Another good source of info is the reproduction vintage catalogs from Manton, Rodda, Jeffery, H & H, and Parker Hale.
Check Cornells web-site for these gems.

Hope this helps.

I guess I'll chime in.

Mr. Baker's book is a good resource. There are are lot of very reasonably priced catalog reproductions sold on Ebay by Cornell Publications. Just enter in the search box James Dixon, Hawksley, Lightwoods or other names and they will come up. These are excellent material. Not only that, they help you figure out exactly what some of this stuff actually does!
I'm always scouring auction catalogs and books for more pictures. Then I get ideas, and there's always tooling for another tool being developed here. It never ends.....

Re: Books on British firearms accessories?

You're quite welcome, Chasseur.

Books on the accessories themselves are few and far between. Most of my "books" are ring binders full of sketches and dimensions I've put together over many years.

If you like flintlock and percussion guns and accessories, W. Keith Neal and David Back published "British Gunmakers; Their Trade Cards, Cases and Equipment". Their are a lot of accessories and cased sets, but the pictures unfortunately are quite small.

"Gun Tools, Their History and Identification Vol.2" by R. Stephen Dorsey and James B. Schaffer also have some British case tools.
I have not been able to find Volume 1, so I don't know what's in there.

Mr. Collis' website has by far the best collection of good quality pictures.
