Barrel length

I am beginning my conversion on my Beretta SxS...First will be cutting barrels...What would be a good length for 45-70? 24" ?? I see them at 23-3/8 24 24.5 and sometimes 22....Is there a way to determine optimum length for a particular gun and velocity??
