I was fooling around with some of the Magtech brass cases and happened to put a 58cal Minnie ball into a 28 gauge case. When it fit pretty close (better with a paper patch), I started scheeeming about a "new" BP round. If a shotgun could be sleeved for tubes chambered for the 28ga case and rifled for the 58 minnie ball loaded for moderate pressures, there might be a "do-able" big bore thumper with some old school flavor. Im thinking a 20ga wouldnt allow enough room for proinserts and rifling, so a 16ga may be a better option. My scheeeeeming involved keeping reloading as easy as possible, without the need for a press. A old style base with punch to remove the spent primer and replace with a new one, add powder and press fit??? a minnie. At this "GUESS" point I was thinking a load of about 80 to 100 grains, but I havent measured the case capacity to see whats possible. I used the minnies because they were handy, then I started thinking that the as hollow base expans might offer some advantages. Let me be the first to admit that I have no idea where or how to start with this idea, OR ofcourse if its worth doing. I would appreciate any suggestions. |
