Re-finishing a sidelock double

What are you guys thoughts on re-finishing a double. I have a sidelock double .500 NE made in 1980 by Marcel Thys. The origional owner apparently kept the stock soaked in oil, as the checkering is filled and the stock has that dark mottled look of long years of too much oil. I have had the rifle for about 6 years and I have always wanted to have the stock re-finished and allow the beautiful piece of wood to be seen. As this is not a pre-war rifle built by one of the "prestigious english firms" I do not suspect that having some re-finish work done to it will affect the resale, not that I will ever part with it mind you!!
If I did have some work done I would have JJ Perdeau at Champlins to do the work as he was Marcels US repair man.
Some oppinions please??
