The job is almost finished. Last weekend I cut mounts and rings so that they would specifically fit the rib. Drop the scope on the rib, push forward, and the scope is on. The forward mount has a mechanical stop in the front but still working on a locking system to keep it from sliding off the back. Probably going to be a dovetailed leaf spring with detent in the front ring. My problem is hardening them so that they don't wear out. If I go the spring route it will drag on the ring and eventually wear a slot in the top. My guess is that I have to harden rings, bases, and whatever I use to lock it in so that things don't beat each other up. Any thoughts on how to approach this would be appreciated. Tom |
