Most collectors and British gun enthusiasts understand that the Brit's had the barrels re-blacked and stocks refreshed as part of normal maintenance. Without seeing at least pictures of the gun it is hard for me to recommend a course of action to you. I very rarely will re-color harden an action just to restore the colors. I usually suggest to my clients that they be conservative in the restorations they undertake. That said at times a full restoration is warranted. Could you post some pictures of your rifle?
