Hi Sorry for not responding I have been away for a while. The initial prompt for this question was the Stock action and forend of a Spanish built 8-bore non- ejector came up for auction with an estimate of £30-50 which seemed like a good starting point for someone who knew that they wanted one. The auction results should be coming through by the end of today so I will let you know what the gun made after all. I am also waiting to find out if my £70 bid for the Thomas Bland "Brent" 3" 12-gauge with the broken stock was successful. I hope to turn this into something that is suitable for wild boar and like Ron I have no problems at all with a fair margin of overkill. Last year in Croatia my friend bowled over a smallish pig with his .30-06 double at a distance of about 15 metres - he shoo-ed the the dogs off so he could finish it off safely. The pig, who by this stage had put two and two together correctly - held my mate directly responsible for what was happening to him and being no longer pre-occupied by the dogs decided to get some payback. My mate had to swat the thing off his leg before he could finish it with a shot from the hip! Much hilarity all round and lots of micky taking but we all recognised that things would have ben very different with a 200Kg Keiler. The biggest one they shot last year weighed in at 237kg |
