I served my appentership with Hollands and am fully aware of the process involved in bending the top strap iron. The action when received from the machine shop has a stub strap that allows for all the other actioning to take place leaving the top strap to be welded on thereafter. it is at this point of welding that I would be careful in bending as it would be slightly weaker at this point due to the weld line. I would prefer to re work the strap whilst cherry red in a forge the file the last adjustments there after. This however risks affecting the engraving. Plus you would have to have the action re hardened due to possible heat transfer through the action body. |
