Re: 10 Bore Purdey Style Caplock Double Rifles

Ckhobart,

Thank You for the compliments.

I can't give an honest evaluation of the Baikal double rifles, I've only ever handled two of them and I didn't have them in my possession long enough to really put them through there paces and test them out.

What I can say from my limited contact is, they are Russian made and they look and feel like it. By that I mean they are a little bit clunky feeling, the fit and finish is lacking and in order to keep the price down as cheap as they are, they cut corners everywhere they could. Now I'm not saying I think they are a bad gun or an unsafe rifle, I think that for the price(under $1k) that they are a good buy if all you want is a rifle with two barrels and none of the trimmings and you have the time to work out the regulation(make the adjustable muzzles work properly). Like I said though I don't have a lot of hands on experience with them so take my evaluation of them with a grain of salt. I would probably buy one in 45-70 if the price was right, I think it would make a decent "truck gun" and be fun to play with. I don't own any safe queens and all of my double rifles have seen blood but I think I would be a lot less cautious with a Baikal in the field than I am with my other double rifles.

Colin
