I'll be interested in hearing how the build progresses once you start. I think when it comes to cartridge selection you'll find that there are many "better" choices than 30-30. I think you'll also find that there are just as many reasons why the 30-30 is a better choice than many other cartridges. In the end I think cartridge choice is about what you want to do with it and what you like. I like the long, flanged cases but brass can be hard to find. If the cartridge fits the action, falls within the pressure limitation and provides the performance you want then it is the right cartridge.
