Re: Possible to convert a 9.3x72r to a 9.3x74r ??

Mike, most european countries have legal minimum requirements as to velocity, diameter or energy for hunting hoofed game. For instance, here in Germany a rifle used for roe deer must deliver an energy of at least 1000 joule at 100 meters, so the minimum roebuck cartridge is the .222 Remington . For all other big game, red deer, fallow, chamoix, boar and so on it must be at least 6.5 mm = .257" bullet diameter and deliver at least 2000 joule at 100m, so the .243 is out because of diameter and the 9.3x72R because the factory loads deliver only 1428 joule at that range, according to factory tables of standard ballistics. Even the 6.5x54 is considered illegal for big game, as the RWS load is quoted at 1775 joule when fired from the 18" carbine barrel.
