I've built several cases for bolt guns, as well as several cigar humidors. The one tip I would offer you is to build the box as one piece, then cut it apart. Boxes aren't the easiest thing to construct and have turn out properly. In the rifle cases I've built, I used solid brass piano hinges. Joinery of the corners is of utmost importance for strength and durability; consider your method carefully!

One other consideration is weight. It is very easy to wind up with a case that is excessively heavy.
