that is what i call machinery in motion ,it makes me drool

and here i am looking at the action photos , wondering how the top lever operates the top locking pin
one goes across and the other up and down how do those hinges work ?
the explanations i have come up with are driving me nuts ,
the correct workings would at least put one NUT to rest
so help please
