Forgive my ignorance, Blain, but what do you mean by block size? I take it the .30/40 case has a smaller head than the .303 British, which has a spiffier name for this purpose, if nothing else.
Mono-block, "block", thickness at the breech to allow enough metal to ream/cut the chamber.
