Am I right in thinking the heavy reinforces in double rifles help concentrate weight between the hands and help the barrels fit shotgun-derived action sizes? I read once that Julian Hatcher turned down the barrel of a .30 Springfield until only about 1/16th inch of metal remained over the chamber. He then fired it continually until, tiring of the exercise, he blew the side out with a 50%-overload proof round. |
