Gentlemen, thanks, I have to admit I'm well pleased with the way it finaly turned out. Buckbrush, you nailed it, 3" past the hinge pin. A knife edge point is right at the back screw of the forend iron. A few thoughts. We could have hollowed out the rib and thinned down the barrel profiles a lot more to cut the weight but after a lot of shooting and thought, I do believe they both contribute to the accuracy. The gun sure isn't finicky. I wanted it regulated with 286gn. bullets but the cost was a killer. After I had ran through several boxes, I tried some 270gns. with intentions of using the second sight blade for cheaper plinking bullets instead of for a longer distance. I figured we could use one scope for the cheaper bullets to play with but I wanted an iron sight to play with as well. I thought if nothing else we could make a new blade and refile it if necessary. To my astonishment and delight they shot the exact same poi. At this point I started using the 270 bullets and periodically doublechecking against the 286. It never changed. Some of the cases have been reloaded 8 times and so far I've only lost one case to seperation. |
