With the greatest of respect. IMO Without investing a fortune in CNC machinery there is no way that one can make a set of mounts (low fixed rings)or any other , finish them pack them and retail them for $ 230.00, let alone $ 100.00. The shaping, boreing, drilling tapping, etc on manual machinery will take hours, then there is the polishing and blueing. skilled machinest Labour runs £ 60-£75 (120 - 150 $ ) per hour. Overheads ( power, light, tooling, cutting fluids, machine wear, heating, rent, rates (property taxes ), admin, phones, stationary, advertising run at ?? It has just taken me a day to make and fit a quater rib to a takedown .404. That is a £ 600.00 item. I can buy one (not the shape I want but nevertheless) for £ 45.00. It took me longer than the cost of that stock item, to grind the cutter to the correct radius for the barrel and put the job in the mill and true it up !! It cannot be done as a business unless they are custom one offs for specific tasks. As a hobby thing where labour is free, then more power to you. Regards |
