Lancaster, that is the 1916 (1st) odel Newton similar to the one that fjrdoc bought. The design was likely influenced by Mauser and, as fjrdoc says, it is a multilug action. It is suppsoedly a very strong action. This 1916 rifle is a very nice acton rifle. There is a 2nd model aka Buffalo Newton which isn't as nice looking. The Buffalo Newton has a dogleg bolt handle but also a neat DST. The set trigger is forward and backwards so that it is pushed to set and the firing trigger is more conveniently located (for me). The originals had either barrel or bolt sights. Later people D&T for scope or Redfield action sight. The original model also came in 30/06. |
