Unmarked except the numeral 1 has been stamped on several components. This harpoon gun was made by Frank Brown for his uncle, Ebenezer Pierce of New Bedford, Massachusetts around 1882. The lever on the right side of the action cocks the internal hammer. A bomb lance would then be loaded and fired into the whale. Rumored that the recoil was so severe, many whaler's using this gun would end up with broken clavicles.
