Thanks for this Lancaster. I had planned to do the same ... always too much to do. Thanks for this excellent archive thread on the rifle and Stanley.

I read Stanley's books, among others, borrowed from the Chelsea and Kensington Library when living in London as some excellent reading as preparation before my 1988 trip to Eastern and Southern Africa.

A tough, strong and ruthless man.

One of these lever actions to me would seem to be an excellent self defence firearm against attacking "natives". The "assault rifle" of the time.
